It's Because It's Happening to You

From the 38-year-old Megan McArdle.
"Maybe it was always thus, but it seems to me that both parties are increasingly resorting to procedural tricks rather than politics, and it worries me. Maybe this means that our political system is broken, maybe it means that the parties are getting increasingly ruthless"

No, it's always been thus.

You're just hearing about this a lot more because you're constantly reading news reports associated with it.

Had you lived through FDR's court-packing scheme, you'd feel the same way about the 30's.

Scheming politicians are a timeless curse.

  1. I, myself, am a fan of the pre-civil war days, particularly what's come to be known as Southern Chivalry.

If that's not reasonable and respectful discourse, I don't know what is.

  2. It always amuses me to see people who seem to be unaware that everything old is new again in the world. They always think whatever is happening right now... never happened before... it was never this bad/good before... OMG!

The more 24/7 news takes over our lives, the shorter the memory cycle becomes. And the more often we hear this.

  3. Yeah, this is way worse than when Senators clubbed one another with canes on the Capitol steps.
