Construction Porn?

Yeah, they talk about it here. And there's some recommendations in the comments.

You want the real thing, though? Get your hands on the long-out-of-print "Calumet K" (currently avaiable free for Kindle, which is currently available free for PC). Construction-porn-wise, it makes "How It's Made" look like a Lego commerical.

  1. You want construction porn, although I don't like that term, try a book called Slim, by William Wister Haines. He also wrote the screenplay for the Hank Fonda movie of the same name.

It's a story of the electrification of America during the great depression, a story worth rereading during the de-electrification of America during the Great Depression of Obama.

  2. Can I borrow your copy? Apparently Slim is WAY out of print, and Amazon can't get me a copy for less than $77.

And Netflix has never heard of the movie :-(

  3. I don't own a copy anymore, sorry. Go to your public library. They probably won't have it but they can borrow it from someone who does through the Interlibrary Loan Program. You will mostlikely have to pay postage these days of tight budgets for libraries and billions for Obama cronies but it is worth it.

  4. Well, after a lot of searching, I found a beat-up copy at AbeBooks.com for only $36, shipped, and I figure I've paid more for a bottle of scotch, and I expect to enjoy this at least as much.

If I'm wrong, I figure I can easily make my money back on eBay :-)
