New Neighbors

A pair of turkeys that have been hanging around my neighborhood for the last week or so. In this picture they're walking away from my driveway, down the sidewalk. For perspective, the sidewalk is 4 feet wide. These are NOT small birds.

When my camera wasn't handy, I've variously spotted them in my back yard, walking up the sidewalk from my driveway to my front door, playing on the lawn of the office building across the street, and stopping traffic on the 4-lane road between my house and the office building across the street.

I have no idea where they came from, or why they're sticking around my neighborhood.

  1. They sensed in you a kindred spirit. :)

  2. That makes sense... I *do* enjoy strolling about with a jovial companion.

  3. It's better when it's not so snowy and a bit warmer, though.

  4. Yeah... there's no such thing as a "nice walk" when it's under 32 degrees, no matter how sunny it is.

  5. That's when you go to the mall. I like to look at the displays in the windows.

  6. Mall-walking? That's SO 80's.

On the other hand, so am I, so I'll join you...

  7. Can I lean on you? I'm feeling a little under the weather today.

  8. Hmmm... I'll bet they've got a wheelchair in the mall office that I can borrow. I'll push you around.

  9. You've been looking for an excuse to push me around since we met P

  10. Yup :-P

Say, I left you some extra strength. You have to go pick it up, though. Just ask for it.

  11. Thank you I did. :) Now I just need to figure out how to stay awake....

  12. Find a radio station that plays disco.

Girls can't fall asleep while disco music plays. Too busy dancing.

Does your phone have a Pandora app?

  13. Good idea. I'll try it tomorrow. 140 miles from home realized I left my purse. Always keep it in the car, but needed it to file my tax return last night. Totally forgot about it. Have to go back and start again tomorrow. Ugh.

  14. But loaded Pandora on my phone and am currently listening to Fernando on the return trip. :)

    1. That... has to be the worst feeling in the world (the forgetting, not the Fernando)

So... does that mean you'll at least be able to get some much-needed rest?

  15. Nothng I can do about it now. I'll celebrate the fact that I didn't run out of gas and I'm not missing anything too important in Wisconsin tomorrow. And yes, I hope to rest. It may be a blessing. I had 10+ hours to go and was already weary.

  16. Why are you still typing, goofy!

    Go nap :-P

  17. I still have over an hour to drive before I get home. I don't think now would be the best.time to nap.

  20. Oooh and now Summer Nights.

Thanks for the Pandora idea. :D

  21. Good ideas... it's what I do... :-)

  22. what Pandora station do you have on?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Generally my Classical station, which I've seeded with a mix of Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Vivaldi, Brahms, and Bach.

    Keeps me happy.

Except I hate Pachelbel's Canon with a murderous rage, and not matter how many times I've thumbs-downed that loathsome noise, it usually pops up again about once every couple hours.

I can't kill the Moonlight Sonata, either, for some reason.

  24. I do too, but there's a problem...

I have to listen to Dennis Miller's show every day, and during the commercial breaks, the internet stream plays about a dozen classical music selections. So I hear them 2 or 3 times a day, every day. I'm pretty well sick of all of them after doing this for a year and a half.

Canon is one, Moonlight is another, there's also a bunch I don't know by name, but make me wince a little bit whenever I hear them now, so I keep having to kick them off Pandora, because they remind me of work, and normally I listen to Pandora to relax.

I was exaggerating when I called Canon "loathsome". It really is pretty.

Although... I *did* play cello for 4 years, so I have scars :-)...

  25. I think that's sad.

Maybe you should listen to 80s to relax instead of classical.

  26. Or big band.

    Or Zumba. I like Zumba.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Alternatively, I have a George Benson station. Smooth Jazz instrumentals.

It's what I listen to instead of the New Age music that's on my yoga DVD.

    Very relaxing

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't like jazz.

    You ignored my request.

  29. On my way again.

    Attempt number two...

  30. I'll make sure it doesn't snow anywhere.

Say... what story were you asking for?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, I could tell you the one my mother used to tell me a lot when I was young:

"Once there was a little boy who was very tired, so he went to sleep."

    ReplyDelete
  32. So basically you are blaming your mother for the fact that you are a huge snot? How gallant.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Not "blame", Kitten... "credit".

    ReplyDelete
  34. I bet you could do better than that. I love your words. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks, and I could, given enough time, but I'm in the middle of my work day right now... :-(

  36. I can wait.

    I'm working on my patience.

  37. Apparently hatred of Pachelbel's Canon is endemic among cellists:

I had a Music History professor with a strange accent. For years I thought it was Taco Bell's Canon in D. Which would make a kind of awesome sense, if you were high. But I wasn't. Just drunk.

    Here's another awesome version:
