I've Never Seen Anyone Do This Before, But It Looks Like Fun

So... who wants to go to lunch with me and get funny looks from the other patrons?

Also, what's the spoiler on that car made out of?

Tell Me Your Favorite One

I don't have #50, yet, but it's getting close.

Anyway, not on the list - although it should be - the way salt & sunshine combine to take the ice off my sidewalk.

This Day in History

American Samoa 2011 American Samoa Worst Soccer Team Gets First Win Nov. 24th, 2011: The America Samoa soccer team got its first win in its history against Tonga. The team was ranked as the worst international team in the world and had lost thirty straight games in almost twenty years. The team also held the record for the worst defeat with a 31-0 loss against Australia.

The lesson: never give up. You're overdue for something wonderful.

30 Creative Ads That Show Advertising Doesn't Have To Be Boring

I think the Zoo one was my favorite.

In other news, on this day in 1963, Dr. Who aired its first episode.

Minor Gardening Accident

While trimming the aggressive rose bush by my front doorstep, I got a branch in the eye.

Nothing life-threatening or sight-ending, but my cornea did get scratched, and mostly I have to do things one-eyed while the other rests.

I'm finding that, even with glasses on, the "good" eye isn't nearly as strong as I thought it was.

Tiny print is hard to read.

It's gonna be a long day at work, since my job consists mainly of reading tiny print.

I Always Thought It Came From That Tony Orlando Song

How the Yellow Ribbon Became a National Folk Symbol

Anyway, it seems to be a popular way to signify you're waiting for someone.

I've actually got 4 strips of cloth hanging from the crabapple tree out front, but they're probably just there so I can tell which direction the wind is blowing.

Well the blue ones are, anyway. The white ones got put up for a different reason.

[title reference link]

By the way, can crabapples be used for anything besides tiny driveway speedbumps?

Comfort Foods From Every State

Sometimes food makes things better.

If you can't figure out what the foods are from the pictures (and trust me, you can't), the whole big list (with pictures) is at Thrillist.

I'm kinda curious about "funeral potatoes" now.

Clever Design, Plus I Like the Name a Lot, Too

via The Awesomer

We love this black electrical tape because it has a spiraling double line in gray that runs along it so you can always see where the end is without running your thumbnail around it six times. The tape is rated for up to 660V and 221 degrees (which only our techie CJ cares about--for the rest of us it's just electrical tape) and is a standard 3/4" wide on a 66-foot roll. We're not sure why but it comes with a handy case, and you know the old saying: Don't look a gift case in the mouth. UL.

I Assume There's a Right Way

If you have a package of 8 hamburger buns, they come in 2 layers of 4 each.

If you take two out, should you take two from the top layer of buns, or 1 each from the top & bottom layers?

Psalm 25

1 Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.

4 Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.

5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

6 Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.

7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O Lord.

8 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.

9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

10 All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

11 For thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.

12 What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.

13 His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

14 The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

15 Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.

17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.

18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

19 Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.

20 O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.

21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.

22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

Hey! It's That Song from the Warner Bros. Cartoons!

Just found out that it's called Powerhouse:

[Raymond Scott - Powerhouse [mp3]]

For the impatient, the song changes melodies in the middle (jump to 1:13) to the "assembly line music", then changes back.

If you grew up on WB cartoons you'll recognize these.

For example "Baby Bottleneck" (starts at 3:14)
